Trainer Information: Noha Alshugairi Noha is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in California and a certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer. She is the co-author with Munira Ezzeldine of the book "Positive Parenting in the Muslim Home. Noha was born in Cairo, Egypt, raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and lived in the US for the last 39 years. She holds a B.A. in Zoology from Rutgers University, a master's degree in counseling from California State University, Fullerton, and a PhD in Islamic studies from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

Noha strongly believes in the power of an encouraging therapeutic relationship to effect change. She works alongside her clients to uncover their hidden sources of strength and resiliency in their journey to achieve their inner peace. Noha works with families, couples, and individuals.
Noha's motto is from the Quran, "Allah will not change the condition of people till they change from within" (13:11). She frequently lectures on issues related to women, the family, mental health, and the intertwining of faith and culture in the American Muslim community. She has been married for 39 years, has 4 adult children, and 7 grandchildren.

Workshop Description: 

This interactive on-line live and streamed video workshop is designed for parent educators, teachers, therapists, childcare professionals and others who want an effective discipline approach. This method is based on Adlerian Psychology and integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging behaviors. Successful participants will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and will:

  1. Learn research based and effective tools and techniques for teaching parents how to use discipline that is kind and firm at the same time (non-punitive, non-permissive)
  2. Learn how to facilitate a parent class from the position of a non-expert.
  3. Gain practice with experiential exercises that help parents go beyond intellectual understanding to be able to respond in empowering ways that teach children.
  4. Learn how to use materials and activities in group settings, parenting classes, and individual work with families.

Additional Information: To gain immediate certification at the end of the training, attending all sessions with the camera on is mandatory. In case any portion is not attended, further work will be required before the certification is final. There will be an optional 30 min session at the end of every meeting to discuss the application of Positive Discipline in the Muslim Home. This optional segment is not required for certification. The training will not be recorded. The optional segment will be recorded and give access to for a week.

The Positive Discipline Association is pleased to provide the opportunity for educators to earn graduate-level university credit. Whether you attend one of our live workshops or participate in an online workshop, you may choose to earn 1 to 4 non-degree credits. Positive Discipline Association courses approved for Graduate-Level Semester Credits through University of the Pacific will appear on an Official Transcript with a letter grade.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop. 

In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
