Facilitator Information: 
Deborah Owen-Sohocki is an international coach, teacher, author, keynote speaker, and workshop trainer. A teacher with 49 years of experience, she led a parent infant program [0-3] and taught in preschool classrooms, K-12, and special ed. She began her Positive Discipline journey 33 years ago in her home and classroom with only the original book Positive Discipline. Deborah started facilitating parenting classes 32 years ago with the belief, "I facilitate what I need to learn". As a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer she has conducted hundreds of Positive Discipline trainings nationally and internationally. During her time at the Education Service Center II, she was a consultant to 44 school districts and promoted Positive Discipline as she worked with teachers and administrators to implement their strategic plans. As a psychotherapist trained in Adlerian therapy, Deborah has served as a co-chair for the Parenting Section for the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology. For three years she was on the teaching staff of ICASSI, the Adlerian summer school. Deborah has also served as a PDA Board Co-chair. She is mother of two, stepmother of four, and grandmother to six grandchildren who continue to be her teacher. 

Vyju Kadambi has been using and teaching Positive Discipline since 2007. She founded Southwest Montessori Academy in 2013 where she helped many teachers and parents in understanding and using the Positive Discipline principles and tools to strengthen their relationship with children. Vyju holds American Montessori Society credentials in Early Childhood, Elementary and Administration. In addition to almost 25 years of experience working in schools and her M.Ed., Vyju has consulted and brought Positive Discipline workshops to schools and conferences around the country. Her own experience as teacher, school leader and a mom of 3 adult children enrich each workshop. 

Workshop Description:

This interactive on-line live workshop is designed for early childhood educators, teachers, and caregivers who work with children from birth to six years of age. (Parents will also find this workshop helpful; however, the focus is on early childhood education.) Participants will learn to apply the principles and tools of Positive Discipline, an Adlerian research-based philosophy, to working with groups of young children. They will also gain a deeper understanding of how young children learn, the importance of belonging and social and emotional learning, and how best to teach those skills in a classroom or care setting. Participants will earn recognition as Certified Positive Discipline Early Childhood Educators and will learn to:

  1. Create a classroom or care setting where children can develop a sense of belonging and significance based on the importance of contribution and mutual respect.
  2. Understand how young children learn and how to adapt teaching to the needs of this age group.
  3. Foster essential social and emotional skills to support development and school readiness, and understand behavior and how to guide it in groups of young children.
  4. Teach the essential skills for developmentally appropriate participation in class meetings.
  5. Learn Positive Discipline and Adlerian concepts for use in the classroom, preschool community, and with parents.

Whether you attend one of our live workshops or participate in an online workshop, you may choose to earn 1 to 4 non-degree credits. Positive Discipline Association courses approved for Graduate-Level Semester Credits through University of the Pacific will appear on an Official Transcript with a letter grade.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop. 

In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
