Facilitator Information: Kathleen McClay, a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer and Co-Founder of Positive Discipline New Jersey, has enjoyed facilitating workshops for parents and educators since 2010. Her many years of experience in the field of early childhood education as preschool director and teacher, along with her degree in special education, have inspired in Kathleen a passion to help children develop the skills necessary to become capable, contributing members of their kindergarten classrooms and beyond.
As a Consultant with the School Culture and Climate Initiative, based at Saint Elizabeth University and a member of the United Way Success By 6 Social Emotional Learning Team, Kathleen has the opportunity to work with adults and students as they focus upon cultivating healthy, safe, respectful and engaging school climates.

Teresa LaSala is a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer and Co-Founder of Positive Discipline New Jersey. She coauthored three Positive Discipline manuals, including Positive Discipline in the Classroom which is the manual used for this training. Teresa is also a Whole Child Faculty Member - Regional Specialist for ASCD and serves as a consultant with the School Culture and Climate Initiative of Saint Elizabeth University/Rutgers and received an award from the NJ State Department of Education for her work as a team member implementing a "Social Emotional Learning Whole School Curriculum" (based on the Positive Discipline Whole School Model). Teresa has been a member of the Positive Discipline Association for 21 years and served 8 years on the International Board of Directors.
 

Workshop Description:  

This is an online interactive and streamed video workshop designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to: 

  1. Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches. 
  2. Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures. 
  3. Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect. 
  4. Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change. 
  5. Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving. 
  6. Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community.

Whether you attend one of our live workshops or participate in an online workshop, you may choose to earn 1 to 4 non-degree credits. Positive Discipline Association courses approved for Graduate-Level Semester Credits through University of the Pacific will appear on an Official Transcript with a letter grade.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop. 

In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
